I was responsible for the move of our company to a new location, and for securing the necessary services. We’re a cooperative spiritual community, Ananda Village, in the Sierra foothills of California, about 90 miles northeast of Sacramento, where I manage the phone and internet services for about 200 residents, private and community businesses, a meditation retreat, and a school. Though we have fiber optic crossing our property, it connects several rural CO’s and hasn’t been used for connecting subscribers. So, our local phone company, with whom we’ve had a 7.5 meg bundled T1 service, didn’t think it was feasible to offer us fiber, or as they described it, “ethernet over copper”.
Coming to a seeming dead end with the phone company, I researched “ethernet over copper” and came upon Jon’s website, JA Communications Group. I really didn’t expect much; after all the local phone company wouldn’t even do a site survey because of our rural location.
Through Jon’s efforts, we recently signed a contract with a provider giving us a 50 meg circuit for about one and a half times the cost of our present 7.5 meg service. And ironically, the local phone company sent out the engineers to create the pathway for this competitor provider.
Not only am I amazed and grateful for this fortuitous turn of events, but I’m equally appreciative of Jon’s help all along the way. His promptness, clarity, and patience made our exchanges a real pleasure. You’re a real gentleman Jon, and that’s coming from a born & bred Southerner!
